SPECIALIZED MINISTRIES
Our Specialized Ministry programs are always changing and growing to meet the needs of the congregation. Below are listed examples of the programs that are planned for members and friends of our congregation, but which are also open and advertised to members of our surrounding communities.
Prayer Ministry: First Church has a phone prayer chain and a prayer bulletin which is available each Sunday on a table in the narthex or in the Chapel. A prayer covenant group meets every Thursday at 9:30 a.m., in the church parlor. Prayer workshops and vigils for specific purposes or occasions are held periodically.
Parish Nurses: This group serves our congregation by taking blood pressures on the last Sunday of each month before and after the worship services. They have also sponsored a Health Fair and a Wellness Education series.
First Place: This Christ-centered weight-loss program has guided hundreds of thousands of people to a healty lifestyle and a closer walk with the Lord. The tremendous success of First Place is due to its biblical approach to weight management, which puts Christ first and improves every area of people's lives: spiritual, physical, mental and emotional. This balanced weight-loss program includes Bible study, group support and accountability, a proven, common sense nutrition plan, regular exercise, daily prayer and Scripture memorization
Cancer Survivors' Mentoring Ministry: This is a group of people who have been touched by a diagnosis of cancer. They are cancer survivors and caregivers who have been led to volunteer to support those individuals and their loved ones who are newly diagnosed, experiencing a recurrence or are involved in the day to day process of living with this life-altering diagnosis. We are willing to share our stories and yours as we encourage each other in this journey.
The mission of the group is HOPE:
Healing Openness Prayer Encouragement
Audio Tape Ministry: Tapes are made of our worship services each week and are delivered to members who are unable to be at the service and request a tape. Tapes may be requested by anyone for a particular Sunday service by phoning on Monday or Tuesday and picking up the tape at the church receptionist's window.
