-Awarded a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in September 2013

*The CDA is a nationally recognized credential for excellence in early childhood education.

-13+ years working with preschoolers

-15+ hours of Continuing Education training each year

Experience:

I have been working with preschoolers for over 12 years.  I started as a preschool Sunday School teacher here at FUMC, and then began substituting here at the preschool once my oldest child entered elementary school.  This year marks my sixth year in the 3 year old class, and my fourth year in our Tuesday/Thursday Enrichment Class.

This is my second year as Director to this wonderful preschool that has been serving the community for 35 years!  My goal for the children here at WCP is not only to provide them with a “place of love and learning”, but to help them to develop a love for learning.  I want the children who attend here to be excited about school and the opportunities it will provide for them over the course of the next 15-18 years of their life!

Why I do what I do…

I absolutely love teaching/working here at Weekday Christian Preschool!  I am just sorry it took so long for me to find my calling!  I love seeing how much the children grow both physically and cognitively over the course of the year!  And now with me teaching Enrichment and with me being the Director, I get to see the growth from one whole year to the next!  It is absolutely amazing!

I find being a preschool teacher/director to be an extremely rewarding profession. The children at this age are so excited and are so open to learning that I can’t wait to come to work each and every day. Their energy and excitement at this age is super contagious!

I feel extremely honored and blessed to be a part of each and every one of their lives!

Why I do what I do:

I absolutely love kids!!!  It is my goal to provide them a positive atmosphere while encouraging them to be independent thinkers.  Children are so innocent and so full of love and they complete me!

I am a mother of 2 wonderful children and was a stay at home mom until both my kids entered school full time. Wanting to work with kids was and is my passion, it seemed like the next logical step was to begin teaching. So 4 years ago I started teaching here in Cuyahoga Falls. I'm so excited to be here now at the Weekday Christian Preschool.

Why I do what I do:

This age group is so fun! They are little sponges who I want to instill with the love of learning, Jesus and caring for others, that would carry with them for the rest of their eduation.

4 Year Old Class

Teacher Assistant: Sherri Scott

Education:

Tallmadge Highschool Graduate

Attended University of Akron

First Aid, CPR

Continuing education courses/trainings in Child Development/Early Childhood

Experience:

After 10 years working at a bank, I quit to stay home with my son and babysit in my home for children ages birth to five years for 16 years. I began subbing for WCP in 2003 and am very excited to be here with a permanent teacher's assistant position. I was active in my son's cub scout troop (he bacame an Eagle Scout) and am currently a co-leader for my teenage daughter's girl scout troop. I was a room mother for both my children and currently volunteer with the CFHS marching band program.

Why I do what I do:

I love children at the preschool age. They are eager to learn and love to share stories of what they did with you. I enjoy seeing them get excited when they learn to do something new, like zip up their coat or build a tall Lego tower. My favorite time of day is when they first walk in the door with a smile on their face. I love to do crafts at this age because no two come out the same and they aren't afraid of what it will look like.

4/5 Year Old Class

Teacher: Julie Luoma

Education:

- BS Elementary Education, Edinboro University, Edinboro, PA

- Continuing Education Coursework

Experience:

I started out teaching 5th grade for Columbus Public Schools in Columbus, Ohio. I have worked as a substitute teacher in both Columbus and Copley, and then taught 3rd through 5th grades at a distance learning school in Akron for 2 years before I had my first child. After my son was born, I became a stay at home mom and had my duaghter in 2009. During that time, I kept current with my coursework and maintained an Ohio Teaching Certificate, had been president of the MOMS Club of Cuyahoga Falls, held board positions for the DeWitt Elementary School PTA, been a Girl Scout leader, and worked as a preschool aid. My time as a preschool aid revealed to me a deep love of working in the field of Earely Childhood Education, and so when I finally returned to teaching, I did so as a preschool teacher!

Why I do what I do:

There is nothing more rewarding than being an Early Childhood Education Professional! I love teaching and getting to see young minds grasp new concepts and abilities. Little ones have such a zest for life and learning, and my desire is to help them to develop a life-long love of learning that will provide a solid base from which to grow and succeed as they enter their elementary school years and beyond.
